Grade 4 Physical Education Lesson Plan: Working with a Partner

Objective: Students will be able to work cooperatively with a partner to complete a series of physical activities.

Equipment: Cones, hula hoops, bean bags, jump ropes, music

Warm-Up (5 minutes):

  • Students will jog around the gym to warm up their muscles.
  • Once the music stops, they will find a partner and high-five each other.

Activity 1: Partner Relay Race (10 minutes)

  • Students will be divided into pairs and stand at one end of the gym.
  • At the other end of the gym, there will be a cone with a hula hoop and a bean bag inside.
  • One partner will run to the cone, pick up the hula hoop and bean bag, and run back to their partner.
  • The partner will then take the hula hoop and bean bag and run to the cone and back.
  • The first pair to complete the relay race wins.

Progression: Add in an obstacle course for the relay race.

Activity 2: Partner Stretching (10 minutes)

  • Students will sit facing their partner with their legs straight out in front of them.
  • They will reach forward and try to touch their partner's toes.
  • Then, they will switch and their partner will try to touch their toes.
  • They will repeat this stretch with their legs in a butterfly position.

Progression: Add in a partner yoga pose.

Activity 3: Partner Jump Rope (10 minutes)

  • Students will stand facing their partner with a jump rope in between them.
  • They will take turns jumping over the rope while their partner swings it.
  • They will try to see how many jumps they can do in a row without tripping.

Progression: Add in a double dutch jump rope.

Cool-Down (5 minutes):

  • Students will jog around the gym to cool down their muscles.
  • They will then find a partner and give them a high-five.

Assessment:

  • Observe students' ability to work cooperatively with their partner during the activities.
  • Observe students' ability to complete the physical activities with proper form and technique.
