Lesson Plan: PE Basketball
Grade Level: Middle School
Objective: Students will learn the basic skills and rules of basketball, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and teamwork.
Materials: Basketball, cones, whistle, gymnasium
Warm-Up (5 minutes):
- Jogging around the gymnasium for 2 minutes
- Stretching exercises for 3 minutes (arm circles, leg swings, lunges, etc.)
Lesson 1: Dribbling (20 minutes)
- Demonstrate proper dribbling technique (fingers spread, ball bounces at waist level, eyes up)
- Have students practice dribbling around cones and through obstacles
- Play a game of "Dribble Knockout" where students try to knock each other's ball out of bounds while dribbling
Lesson 2: Passing (20 minutes)
- Demonstrate proper passing technique (step towards target, use chest pass or bounce pass)
- Have students practice passing to each other in pairs and in a circle
- Play a game of "Passing Relay" where students pass the ball down the line and back as quickly as possible
Lesson 3: Shooting (20 minutes)
- Demonstrate proper shooting technique (elbow in, wrist flick, follow through)
- Have students practice shooting from different spots on the court
- Play a game of "Horse" where students take turns shooting from different spots and trying to match each other's shots
Cool-Down (5 minutes):
- Stretching exercises for 5 minutes (hamstring stretch, quad stretch, calf stretch, etc.)
Assessment:
- Observe students during each lesson to ensure they are using proper technique
- Play a scrimmage game at the end of the series to assess students' overall skills and teamwork abilities.
