Resources:
- A variety of musical instruments (e.g. drums, shakers, xylophones, bells, etc.)
- Audio recordings of different sounds (e.g. animal sounds, nature sounds, household sounds, etc.)
- Pictures of different instruments and their names
- Whiteboard and markers
- Music player and speakers
Introduction (10 minutes):
- Gather the children in a circle and introduce the topic of sounds and instruments.
- Show them pictures of different instruments and ask if they know what they are called.
- Play a short audio recording of a sound and ask the children to guess what it is.
- Explain that they will be exploring different sounds and instruments today.
Main Activity (30 minutes):
- Set up a variety of musical instruments in the middle of the room.
- Play different audio recordings of sounds and ask the children to identify them.
- Encourage the children to explore the instruments and make their own sounds.
- Ask the children to identify the different instruments and their names.
- Play a simple tune on one of the instruments and ask the children to guess which one it is.
- Use the whiteboard to draw pictures of the instruments and their names as the children identify them.
Conclusion (10 minutes):
- Gather the children back in the circle and ask them to share their favourite sound or instrument from the activity.
- Recap the different sounds and instruments they explored.
- Play a fun song on one of the instruments and encourage the children to dance and move to the music.
Assessment: Observe the children as they explore the instruments and identify the different sounds. Ask them questions to check their understanding of the different instruments and their names.
